All the time, God is good! 

In this season of Easter, we are reminded of the many ways God blesses us.  Even nature is blossoming in response to the Lord’s resurrection. Another blessing both long-time parishioners and first-time visitors have shared with me is how beautiful and uplifting our Easter celebration was.  None of this was possible without the effort and generosity of so many good people.  So, please join me in a prayer of thanksgiving for the following.

Our parish has so far collected over $56,000 in contributions from the collections that took place during Holy Week and Easter gifts.  This is our highest total since the pandemic.  I thank the Lord, not only for the dollar amount collected, but also for the large number of individuals who gave.  May God bless the generosity of all our donors.

I have to mention that your generosity allows us to have a top notch music program at Holy Name of Jesus – St. Gregory the Great Parish.  Peter Adamczyk, our music director, works with an extremely talented team of professionals and parish volunteers to provide us with performances that rival any cathedral in the world and any concert hall in New York City.  I thank God that the Catholic Church is able to do in our neighborhood what she has done throughout her history: be a patron of the arts so that all people, not just the wealthy and privileged, can have access to the very best that human culture has to offer. But even more important than the beautiful performances experienced by those who come to our liturgies, is that our musicians accompany us in lifting our minds and hearts to God in prayer.

Our parish staff went above and beyond in their effort, the extra hours they put in, and their joyful attitude.  We all are so very blessed to have such a dedicated team working for Holy Name of Jesus-St. Gregory the Great parish, but I have to especially recognize:  Steve Pace, Jackie Espinal, Maria Cosme, Leona Ureña, Frankie Medina. I also thank God for Andres Jaramillo, Veronica Soto, Jason Garcia and Noel Vera and our young man who is preparing for seminary, Kirk Brouwer.

We have so many dedicated volunteers who helped us spiritually prepare during Lent, accompanied our new brothers and sisters to the Easter sacraments, cleaned our church, decorated our sanctuary, and prepared and served in our liturgies, that I don’t have enough space to name them all.  I will try to name a few:  Mary V, Joseph, Manuel and Eridiana, Soneida, Yanick, Mary Jane, Josiane, Trudy, Marianne, Rick, Anne, Barbara, Patricia, Maureen, Nancy, Gabriel, Tatiana, Fran, Jerry, Lorna, Klever, Lia and Manuel, Alex, Marie-Lourdes, Salvador, Ismael, Chantelle, Maxo, Marie-Jo, David, Kate and Anthony, Erin and Neil, Courtni, Charlie, Veronica and Nenito. 

Finally, I thank God for my brother clergy, Bishop Walsh, Fr. D’Angelo, Fr. Wesbee, and Deacon Andre.  On behalf of all of them, I thank you and I thank God for you.  God is good, all the time! All the time, God is good!

En esta temporada de Pascua, se nos recuerda las muchas maneras en que Dios nos bendice. Incluso la naturaleza está floreciendo en respuesta a la resurrección del Señor. Otra bendición que tanto los feligreses de larga data como los visitantes primerizos han compartido conmigo es lo hermosa y edificante que fue nuestra celebración de Pascua. Nada de esto era posible sin el esfuerzo y la generosidad de tanta gente buena. Así que, por favor, únanse a mí en una oración de acción de gracias por lo siguiente.

Nuestra parroquia hasta ahora ha recaudado más de $ 56,000 en contribuciones de las colectas que tuvieron lugar durante los regalos de Semana Santa y Pascua. Este es nuestro total más alto desde la pandemia. Doy gracias al Señor, no solo por la cantidad de dólares recaudados, sino también por la gran cantidad de personas que dieron. Que Dios bendiga la generosidad de todos nuestros donantes.

Tengo que mencionar que su generosidad nos permite tener un programa de música de primera categoría en la Parroquia del Santo Nombre de Jesús – San Gregorio Magno. Peter Adamczyk, nuestro director musical, trabaja con un equipo extremadamente talentoso de profesionales y voluntarios parroquiales para ofrecernos actuaciones que rivalizan con cualquier catedral del mundo y cualquier sala de conciertos en la ciudad de Nueva York. Doy gracias a Dios porque la Iglesia Católica puede hacer en nuestro vecindario lo que ha hecho a lo largo de su historia: ser una mecenas de las artes para que todas las personas, no solo los ricos y privilegiados, puedan tener acceso a lo mejor que la cultura humana tiene para ofrecer. Pero aún más importante que las hermosas actuaciones experimentadas por aquellos que vienen a nuestras liturgias, es que nuestros músicos nos acompañen a elevar nuestras mentes y corazones a Dios en oración.

Nuestro personal parroquial hizo todo lo posible en su esfuerzo, las horas adicionales que dedicaron y su actitud alegre. Todos somos muy bendecidos de tener un equipo tan dedicado trabajando para  Holy Name of Jesus-St. Gregorio Magno parroquial, pero tengo que reconocer especialmente: Steve Pace, Jackie Espinal, María Cosme, Leona Ureña, Frankie Medina. Tenemos tantos voluntarios dedicados que nos ayudaron a prepararnos espiritualmente durante la Cuaresma, acompañaron a nuestros nuevos hermanos y hermanas a los sacramentos de Pascua, limpiaron nuestra iglesia, decoraron nuestro santuario y prepararon y sirvieron en nuestras liturgias, que no tengo suficiente espacio para nombrarlos a todos.
