Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation
The committee provides a foundation for the Holy Name-St. Gregory parish commitment to the Ministry of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC). It offers educational programs and service opportunities for parishioners. The JPIC Committee regularly partners on a wide range of issues with our neighboring religious congregations, the Franciscan Friars of Holy Name Province, Metro NY Catholic Climate Movement, Bread for the World, The Migrant Center at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, and the Joy J Homeless Outreach Organization.
The JPIC Committee has recently led or supported initiatives concerning Immigration/Migration, Hunger and Food Justice, Criminal Justice Reform, Climate Change/Ecological Spirituality, Non-violence and Anti-racism, Fair Housing and Homeless outreach.
The past year the JPIC sponsored an electronic recycling event, Know Your Rights Immigration Sessions, a March 2018 Homeless Outreach event, the Spring Food and Climate Film Series, the Bread for the World Anti-Hunger Letter Campaign, a Global Catholic Climate Movement Mini-retreat, and most recently the October 27th Metro NY Catholic Climate Movement Care for Creation Laudato/Si Conference.
The Committee meets on monthly basis. To become involved in this important ministry or to receive more information, please contact Julia McGinnity at 917-400-0491 or the parish office at 212-749-0276 ext 112.
