12 Noon - Traditional Choir
Holy Name’s traditional choir, has a history extending over 70 years. The choir is accompanied by our historic orgen in the church choir loft. We sing classical music, including Mozart, Bach, Palestrina and Faure, as well as traditional chants and anthems year-round. This choir - a mix of professionals and volunteers - provides the core of sacred music for Christmas, Holy Week and Easter.
9 A.M. - Children’s Choir is Holy Name’s ‘Family Mass’ choir - inviting youth and children between the ages of 7 and 17 to participate in the special music for the 9:00 A.M. Mass. Older children provide leadership and guidance for younger people and the music is geared to bring out the individual’s best talents and abilities.
5:30 P.M. - Contemporary Choir
Holy Name’s ‘Contemporary’ Choir - brings the Sunday afternoon liturgy to life by focusing on newer song styles, compositions and arrangements. It is accompanied by piano, guitar and welcomes other acoustic instruments. The music emphasizes strong rhythm and harmony.
10:30 A.M. - Spanish Choir
At Holy Name, we have a choir that sings for the 10:30 A.M. Mass in Spanish and which prepares special music for Christmas, Holy Week and Easter.
1:30 P.M. - French Choir
The 1:30 P.M. Mass features our choirs that sing music in French and Kreyol, and includes repertoire from Haiti. The liturgical program also features a West African ensemble on a monthly basis.
The 2008 - 2009 season inaugurates our Renaissance Choir, which focuses on chant and other gems of the Church’s musical heritage, expecially music dating from before 1600. The Renaissance Choir sings for the 7:30 A.M. Mass on a semi-regular basis.
All choirs sing on Sunday, from September through early June. Additional liturgies are sung for Christmas, Holy Week and Easter.
Rehearsals are just before each Sunday Mass, with the exception of the French choir, which rehearses on Saturdays.
